Welcome to WE4SELF, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable women and young girls in Liberia. Since our establishment in 2006, we have been at the forefront of promoting human rights, providing income-generating activities, and fostering community development through innovative and sustainable projects. Our mission is to create a dignified and respectful environment for all by advocating for human rights and delivering impactful programs across various sectors. Below is an overview of our current projects, showcasing our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of Liberians.

1. Girls and Young Women Take Action for Peace

The “Girls and Young Women Take Action for Peace” project is dedicated to empowering young women and girls to become active peacebuilders within their communities. This initiative focuses on mentorship, advocacy, and community engagement to promote sustainable peace across Liberia.

Mentorship and Advocacy: Young women and girls receive mentorship and small grants to engage in advocacy and networking activities.
Community Engagement: Awareness campaigns, dialogues with community leaders, and training for men and boys as peace ambassadors.
Capacity Building: Training for peace hut members to mediate, mitigate, and manage conflicts, ensuring sustainable peace within their communities.

2. Community Livelihood and Agriculture Support (CLAS)

Partners: Government of Liberia (GoL), World Bank, French Agency for Development (AFD), Swedish International Development Agency (Sida)

The CLAS project, part of the REALISE initiative, aims to improve livelihood opportunities and climate resilience for vulnerable populations in rural Liberia. Targeting 16,200 households, this project supports sustainable agriculture and community development.

Key Components:

Farming Subprojects: Beneficiary Farming Groups (BFG) receive up to $1,800 in farm start-up grants, life skills training, and $350 cash transfers during the lean season.
Community Development: Provision of $1,800 grants and technical assistance to maintain or improve small-scale infrastructures and support market linkages.
Youth Engagement: Mobilization and supervision of youth in communal farming, ensuring compliance with environmental, social, and health standards.

3. Promoting Women’s Empowerment and Rights through Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) Methodology

This project integrates the VSLA methodology with initiatives to enhance women’s political participation, leadership, and decision-making. Aimed at empowering women across Liberia, this initiative provides comprehensive support to foster economic independence and political engagement.

Key Components:

Economic Empowerment: Training women in VSLA and business management skills to boost their economic independence.
Political Participation: Encouraging women to take active roles in political processes and leadership positions within their communities.
Comprehensive Support: Advocacy, education, and skills training to foster a holistic approach to women’s empowerment.
