WE4SELF is engaged in Economic Empowerment for vulnerable women, young women, and youth through the Village Savings and Loan Association Methodology, WE4SELF was trained by CARE Liberia in the Village Savings and Loan Association Methodology in 2012. WE4SELF specializes in the VSLA methodology to empower vulnerable women to gain financial stability and independence. We have trained and empowered over 5000 VSLA groups around the Country. Women Empowerment for Self-Employment (WE4SELF) is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization established, incorporated, registered and accredited by the Government of Liberia. Since its inception in 2006, WE4SELF has worked in fourteen (14 ) of the fifteen counties of Liberia and maintains sub-offices in River Cess, River Gee, Sinoe, Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Lofa, Grand Gedeh, Montserrado and Grand Kru Counties. The head Office is in the Zubah Town Community, Paynesville City, and Montserrado County, Liberia.
The Organization was established and incorporated in 2006 and accredited by the Government of Liberia. Since its establishment, the Organization has been recognized and accredited by various government agencies and international organizations because of the quality of projects it has executed. We are currently implementing long-term and impactful projects with various partners such as Action Against Hunger, Plan International Liberia, Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kvinna, till Kvinna, and Democracy International (DI). We have also implemented projects for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); Peace Building Fund (PBO)/UNHCR; National Elections Commission (NEC); and International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES). Others are Liberia Education Trust (LET); Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE); Foundation for Women (FFW) USA; and Action against Hunger (ACF).
As a local NGO, WE4SELF focuses on women, young women, youth and children because of their vulnerability in disaster and conflict situations.
With seventeen (17) years of experience in the pursuit of the development agenda of the Liberian government, WE4SELF is a leading voice in using creative innovation to engage in trade and skills acquisition, training and development to transform the current dire situation our Liberian women, young women, youth and children are going through.
WE4SELF is the only NGO in Liberia that was trained by the Cash Leaning Partnership (CaLP) in institutional capacity and Cash Transfer Readiness.
WE4SELF is now CTP ready.
WE4SELF was the only NGO to attend the African Platform for Social Protection (APSP) conference in Pretoria; South Africa.WE4self believes that social protection is human rights not a favour. In this light WE4SELF has been providing social services for women, girls and children in fourteen of Liberia’s fifteen counties, especially the hard to reach South Eastern part of Liberia. We also implemented the cash Transfer component of social protection in Rivercess and Sinoe Counties with 1500 youth/beneficiaries in nine communities.
In line with the Agriculture component of WE4SELF’s programmatic area, the organization has worked with many INGOs and Government agencies on climate-smart agriculture and value added for youth and women. WE4SELF was the only CSO that worked in two counties (Sinoe and River-Cess) on the LACE/World Bank Youth Opportunity Project (YOP).
